New "E-lert" System
The “e-lert” system was developed to combat the improper use of old closed account checks, and as the economy has tightened counterfeit bills made on really good copy machines have also become a problem, as have counterfeit travelers checks, insurance checks, and even money orders.
How the “e-lert” system works: Sergeant Ed Green, the ”e-lert” liaison in Chief Daily’s Port Townsend Police Department will send an email to the Chamber when ever there is a situation similar to the ones mentioned above, and the Chamber will send an email to every business that has signed up for the program. There is no cost to sign up for this program.
If a bank gets a bad check or a counterfeit the process will take place in a similar manner. They will contact the Chamber, we will send on the information and the Port Townsend Police Department will get a copy.
This program was responsible for the capture of two passers of counterfeit bills in an Oregon Community, because the serial number of the phony $20 bill was posted next to the cash register.

TRAVELING ON THE PORT TOWNSEND-KEYSTONE FERRY?
Be
sure to make a reservation either by phone or online! They are not required for vehicles under
6,000 pounds, but are highly suggested because we are now down from
three ferries to only one ferry and it carries no more than 50 vehicles
per crossing. Also, the ferry cannot accept vehicles over 80,000
pounds. Trailers and RVs must reserve a space by phone only. Motorcycles are no longer moved to the front of the line, so
reservations are encouraged for motorcyclists, as well. You
can reserve by calling WSDOT-FERRIES at 511 or 888-808-7977 between 7am
& 9pm, or online at the link below. Note that the online form
refreshes after you complete each field and you cannot skip any field
of information. You can make a reservation from 30 days down to 2
hours before sailing. If you have a reservation you MUST arrive at the
ferry dock between 45 and 90 minutes before your scheduled sailing. If you arrive any later you must go as a stand-by. Up to 10 stand-bys (those
without reservations) will be accepted from 45 minutes until sailing --
as space permits. If you arrive at the dock any earlier, and do not
have a reservation, you will be turned away and told to return 45
minutes before the next sailing.
